Data Sources for Business Intelligence

Coordinated data marts

A data mart is partial data ware house. While the data warehouse collects centralized data across all the organization, the data mart covers just one or few areas e.g. finance, sales, marketing, production, personel and so on. Gradual building of coordinated data marts with shared dimensions and their subsequent linking into a data warehouse (the data marts has to be designed from beginning to allow this) takes less risk can be an alternative of creating one comprehensive data warehouse at once.
